In 2005 Lewisville Lodge took on a new endeavor to reach out to our local community and re-energize our involvement with the Lewisville Independent School District. Our lodges first endeavor to put on a fun run was a good success for a first year event. We had 96 registered runners and were able to provide $400 to the Lewisville Independent School District. What a learning experience it was for us!
As we enter into our fourth year with “Race for the Children” we are proud to say that last year’s race was a tremendous success, we increased participation in both sponsors and race participants and were able to give nearly $4,000 to the LISD Education Foundation and close to $3,000 to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
PURPOSE OF THE RACE
Thephenomenal efforts of the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital to help crippled and dyslexic children, at no charge to the families, is known worldwide and certainly worthy of our support. For further information about the Hospital, you may visit their web site atwww.tsrhc.org.
We also feel that the educational support of our children is just as worthy.
In the words ofM. W. Sidney Kase, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Washington
Consider, if you will, that Freemasonry and the schools are basically in the same "business", the "people business". We tell our initiates that our Masonic teachings are designed to make them wiser, better and happier. We are a philosophical fraternity, but we are also an educational institution. We are concerned about people; we deal with people; we develop people; we educate people.Although we are no longer engaged in the building of cathedrals, we are concerned with developing character, leadership, better individuals, better family men, better citizens.
Our Masonic forefathers supported the idea of free universal education for the citizenry, which was true to their belief that a builder is an enlightened man. We are generally the first to take practical steps in support of public education in any newly developing area. As our Masonic Brethren joined in exploring the burgeoning "New World", led by Lewis and Clark, other Masons were to be found among the pioneers who moved into and developed these areas. One of their first endeavors in a new community was to build a Masonic Lodge. Generally, this was a two-story structure with the ground floor to serve as a schoolroom, the upstairs as the Lodge room.
This was the case over one hundred and fifty years ago right here in the Lewisville area, where the first public schools were established in the Masonic Lodge.
In March of 2007 out Lodge celebrated its 150thAnniversary; this marked the beginning of a renewed emphasis on our benevolent responsibilities and community involvement. There are approximately 50,000 children within the LISD; our goal is to help as many of them and their teachers as possible. We will be working hand in hand with the LISD to encourage the participation of the children, parents and teachers. We will also once again partner with the area RunOn! stores, to gain the support from runners throughout the DFW Metroplex. We anticipate a large turnout and hope that you will join us in our efforts and help us make a difference in the lives of our young people.
Alldonations should be made payable to - Lewisville Masonic Lodge No. 201, donations (and logos, if applicable) must be received by 8/6/08 to guarantee name/logo placement on the T-shirt.
